Stainless steel sculpture spraying process and characteristics

The spraying of stainless steel sculpture surface is usually carried out with a hand-held spraying gun. In order to make the thickness uniform, the operation should be skilled. The Angle between the sculpture surface and the spraying direction should be boat so that the metal examples of spray and the surface collide at right angles, and the sculpture and the spray gun head are kept at such intervals. In addition, attention should be paid not to spray in a continuous place, because it will be heated locally, the metal will produce oxide film, adhesion decline, and increase the deformation of the spray layer. The distance should be based on the strength of compressed air and melting temperature, generally, 8 to 15cm is appropriate. The properties of the surface of stainless steel sculpture are different from electroplating and hot-dip coating. It is very important to understand their properties for the application of spray coating, stainless steel sculpture spray coating is composed of spray metal particles, contains an oxide, and because it is porous, the proportion is small poor mechanical strength. It also has characteristics in thermal expansion and contraction, and these characteristics are changed with the different conditions of spraying.

1.Oxide in spray coating

When spraying metal on the surface of stainless steel sculpture, the surface of molten metal particles is hydrogenated to form an oxide film, which is mixed into the coating, so there is a considerable amount of oxide in the spraying layer. If the oxide content is much, it will make the coating embrittlement, adhesion decrease. The oxide content varies with the conditions and methods of spraying.

2.Size of the spray particle

The spraying layer on the surface of the stainless steel sculpture is attached by the collision of spraying particles and irregular deformation. When the section is examined under a microscope, the particles can be seen to flatten out, and individual particles can be distinguished. Some particles are scattered by droplets formed by collisions. The size of the coating particles is not uniform, it varies with the pressure of compressed air, spraying distance, melting temperature, etc. The smaller the spray particles, the more dense the spray layer, the better adhesion. In order to obtain fine particles, the plating conditions must be controlled.

3.Porous

As mentioned above, the spraying layer of stainless steel sculpture is the collision, splashing, and deformation of the jet particles, and the particles are concerned with each other to form a coating. Therefore, the particles are not completely fused, and there must be gaps between the particles, resulting in porosity. This is the characteristic of spray coating. This is very suitable as a paint base, but because the paint penetrates into the hole, the oil consumption increases, so the cost increases. In addition, this porosity can also play a role in wear resistance and improve lubricity.

4.Adhesiveness

The adhesion between the coating and the stainless steel sculpture matrix is the most important property of the coating. The reason why the spray layer can be attached to the surface of the stainless steel sculpture matrix, as described in the pretreatment section, is related to the convex and concave of the matrix surface, and purification is also an important factor. In addition, it is also related to the spray distance and gas pressure.
